Pentti Sarpaneva original brutalist owl necklace. Stylized owl pendant necklace in bronze by Pentti Sarpaneva for Turum Hopea, Finland, ca 1965, in Brutalist style, with abstracted form of owl, with articulated bands and circles on bronze round link chain.

Sarpaneva (1925-1978) was a well known and respected designer of mid century jewelry and decorative arts in Finland, working for various makers of mid century and Scandinavian design, including Kalevala, so well known throughout the world. His designs are now iconic, and appear to have been influenced by both Byzantine and Viking motifs, coupled with his modernist and and unique vision.
